When it comes to choosing a platform for writing a blog or creating a website, there are countless options available. For me, the choice was clear—I use Canva daily in my classroom, making the decision an easy one. It is user friendly and I have the pro version which gives me a ton of extra tools and apps to use. I am not going to lie, when I read that we were going to be creating an ePortfolio, I wanted to run for the hills. I have been out of school for 12 years. What in the world was I thinking?? After I composed myself lol and found an AMAZING group to work with, I got started. And to be honest, I am really enjoying this process. It may be because I am familiar with the platform so I am easily able to create what I envisioned.
If you find yourself in EDLD 5303 having to create an ePortfolio, I recommend using a platform that you are familiar with or that is user friendly. I would also recommend looking at the examples your professors give you, but briefly. I wanted to get a feel for what we needed but I did not want to try and make mine look like anyone else. I found a template to get myself started and then went and made it my own. In the end I completely changed the look of it because while the template was extremely professional looking, I did not feel like it reflected me. And that's kind of what this is all about. The ePortfolio is meant to be done in steps. Like baby steps.
DO NOT RUSH!
I think that if we try to make it look like the end result our first time working on it, we will cause ourselves undue stress. I really love the look and feel of my ePortfolio. I feel like it reflects me and gives the readers a small glimpse into my thought process. -LM
