As an educator committed to continuous growth, I've discovered the incredible value of Professional Learning Networks (PLNs). These communities have become a vital part of my professional development, offering fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to teaching. Currently I am involved with the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM) has been transformative, especially after attending the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT). Networking with math teachers and accessing The Texas Mathematics Teacher journal has provided me with new ideas and strategies. The Not So Wimpy Third Grade Teacher Group is a valuable community for practical teaching solutions. Initially a blog, it has grown into a supportive network for sharing resources and experiences. Currently in a "consumption phase," I'm absorbing knowledge and hope to contribute more actively in the future, despite a busy schedule with ADL coursework.
Eight weeks ago, Dr. Johnson introduced me to the concept of "feedforward" - a transformative approach that shifts focus from past performance to future growth. This concept perfectly aligns with my growth mindset journey and has changed how I view professional development. Instead of dwelling on what was, feedforward encourages us to focus on what could be. These learning networks are more than just professional resources - they're communities of practice that support continuous growth and innovation in education. While my current engagement might be limited by time constraints, I'm excited about the future possibilities for collaboration and contribution.
For educators considering joining professional learning networks, I can't recommend it enough. These communities offer access to diverse perspectives and innovative ideas, supportive networks of like-minded professionals as well as resources that enhance classroom practice. As I continue this professional development journey, I'm grateful for the connections I'm making and the growth opportunities ahead. These networks aren't just enhancing my teaching practice - they're helping me become a better educator for my students. - LM
