Mindset Matters

11/1/2024

This week pushed me to examine my own mindset in ways I never expected. Who knew a single assignment could completely reshape how I think about learning? It's amazing how many fixed mindset thoughts we carry around daily without even realizing it. Those familiar doubts kept creeping in: “This is too advanced for me” and “maybe I was not ready to do this.” This week, as I've been diving deep into growth mindset research and reflection, I've realized just how much these little thoughts shape our entire approach to learning and challenges. Just yesterday, I watched one of my students struggle with a math problem. Their first response? "I'm bad at math." It hit me because I recognized that same fixed mindset thinking I've been working to overcome in myself. Instead of letting that thought stick, we added our new favorite word: "yet." "I'm not good at this type of problem... yet." I'm also discovering that developing a growth mindset isn't about pretending everything's easy - it's about embracing the struggle as part of the journey. Whether I'm figuring out new tech tools or redesigning lesson plans, each challenge is a chance to stretch my capabilities. As this week wraps up, I'm carrying forward a powerful lesson: growth isn't always comfortable, but it's always worth it. And the best part? I'm just getting started. - LM
